Let's Pay Our College Athletes  There are more than 460,000 student athletes that play sports in the NCAA. One of the biggest questions in college sports for the past decade has been should the athletes get paid. What I meaning by that is, should college athletes get paid not only to compete but also for their likeness? The debate has even led to the stoppage of popular sports games such as EA’s NCAA Football games, and the stoppage of EA’s NCAA Basketball. Not to mention some players even going overseas to play rather than going to college. It has even led to many court cases where athletes are fighting for their right to seek profit. I believe that yes, all college athletes should get paid for competing also for their likeness as well.   One of the biggest reason's college athletes should get paid to compete is the amount of risk the college athletes put on their body. A study from the article, At Your Own Risk: Information for Student Athletes, shows that, "Statist...

Deceptive Food Labeling

If you have ever looked at products at a grocery store, you have seen the little labels. The ones that say “organic,” “non-GMO,” and “gluten-free,” among others. Food products often have false claims printed on their labels, and consumers often do not know that these claims are untrue or misleading. I strongly dislike buying products with these labels, but they are becoming much more difficult to actively avoid, although I do try to purchase more products that do not have these labels. Products that are labeled “organic” often claim that they are all-natural, free of pesticides, or, in the case of milk, come from cows that are treated more humanely (Henry 2018). However, conventional and organic products both use pesticides (Marcone 2019). One pesticide that organic farmers use, copper sulfate, a possible carcinogen, was to be banned by the European Union, until it met opposition by organic farmers because they did not have any viable alternative to it (Miller 2018). Despite using pe...

R. Noland, Argument essay

Speculative Journalism is Harmful Journalism is a practice that has existed for many years and has been an invaluable tool for keeping the people up to date on what is going on in the world around them.Though if a journalist were to report on a story without all the facts by filling in the details based off their own assumptions, a dangerous litany of possibilities begin to arise. This method of journalism is known as Speculative Journalism. Speculative Journalism has existed for about as long as journalism itself but in our modern society where media consumers are always itching to know what's happening as soon as possible this form of journalism has seen an extreme rise in use. This rise in use is most notably seen when the topic has political ties of any kind.   A prime example of speculative journalism being harmful comes from an incident involving three groups: one made up of high school students, one made up of a group of men known as ‘Black Israelites’, and a sma...
Land of the Free and Home of the Brave Is there really justice for all? In America we pride ourselves on the phrase “with liberty and justice for all”  but who exactly is receiving this type of treatment and is it for all Americans or just a select group or minority?  With the immigration policies and the corruption of power trickling down to state officials we have to ask do we really have justice for all? In this essay I will describe some examples of injustice that we face today and let you decide if we have justice for all.    The United States of America is the leading country in incarceration with there being 2.3 million people incarcerated in federal and state prisons. When I hear about people being arrested I immediately wonder if it has to do with racial profiling or if they were actually guilty of the crime. Racial profiling is when a person of the law is biased with the notion that People Of Color are more guilty o...
